A Brides Journal: The Traditional Wedding

2 weddings down and 1 to go! We just had our traditional Ghanaian Wedding and it was AMAZING!!

Its 8am I’m awake bright and early…my heart filled with that mix of anxiousness and excitement – you know what I mean ladies. I could feel the sun shining on my face as I lay there and could smell the delicious aroma of the dishes my mother was preparing downstairs (nothing will ever beat mommas home cooking). Not knowing what the day held I jumped out of bed and slipped into something comfortable.

As I proceeded down the stairs the railings were decorated with pink and white balloons, streamers and ribbons at every corner, there were chairs draped with neatly placed and beautiful white covers. The room was perfect.

With the party starting at 1pm and guests arriving from 12:30 I had limited time to get my hair and makeup done!! You know that sense of panic when you just have so much to do…well that was me. Luckily my amazing cousin B was on hand to do what can only be described as a beautiful job with my hair and makeup. With that done and laughing with my girls…I waited to be presented to my handsome groom.

The wedding turned out to be wonderful and emotional, considering I was a bit reluctant to go through with it when my parents had initially mentioned it, I was absolutely thrilled.  Mike and I were separated till it was time for me to enter. He came down to greet my extended family and when the time was right my sister and cousins brought me down for the big reveal.

It was a beautiful day full of love, family and friends and with the love of my life by my side and God at the centre everything perfectly came together.
