The Lord is My Shepherd

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.

 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
 all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
forever”.

Psalm 23

Today’s blog post is a little different from the others as it’s an entire post on Psalm 23. I really want to encourage you as you go about your day, your week, your month or even your year (Friends theme tune!!) to lean on the Lord; let Him guide you and establish your footsteps, light your path and show your way.

Life is an unknown sequence of unexpected challenges and journeys that we have to take no matter what, but when your hope is in Christ this transforms everything. Now, I’m not saying things will be perfect but I am saying the way you see life and live life will forever change and…for the better. Jesus doesn’t promise us a perfect life while on earth but He does promise to help and to be that comfort, that rock, that one constant, a friend you can truly rely on who loves you unconditionally.

Like the psalmist says in this beautiful work of art, ‘I shall not want, He leads me in the path of righteousness, I will fear no evil’, this entire Psalm tells us that God has not and will never forsake us. Even though we may go through the valley of the shadow of death Jesus will lead us He will be our lamp and our protection.

Lastly, but certainly not least God promises us that goodness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our lives and we will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. How amazing is that!? The promise that goodness and mercy shall follow us till we see Him one day. The promise of eternal life will make you see this time on earth in a whole different way; this promise is truly a cause for celebration and jubilation. Though we are totally undeserving God has given this to us because of our faith in Christ Jesus. Praise God!
